Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana will be performed with two pianos and percussion together with merged choirs. Orff’s music of driving rhythmic vitality and striking lyricism is set to verses written by monks in the Abbey of Benediktbeuern during the twelfth and thirteenth centuries. These verses illustrate the fickleness of fortune and wealth, the ephemeral nature of life, the joy of the return of spring, and the pleasures and perils of drinking and gluttony.
