FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

The Guelph Chamber Choir announces its 2011/12 concert season

Guelph, Ontario – September 1, 2011 – The Guelph Chamber Choir is pleased to continue its tradition of presenting inspired choral music to stir the human spirit with a new series of five great evenings of choral music.
Conductor Gerald Neufeld is excited to present a new season of exciting and beautiful choral music. “The sound of human voices blended together in harmony creates magical bonds among performers and listeners. We hope you will be able to join us for some or all of our concerts in the coming year.”

The Guelph Chamber Choir’s season opens at St. George’s Anglican Church with a screening of the 1923 silent film The Hunchback of Notre Dame with live music for choir and organ. Guest Conductor Robert Cooper has selected a mélange of dramatic choral music to portray Quasimodo’s turbulent emotional struggles during the Paris revolution.  Edward Moroney’s powerful improvisations at the organ will heighten the drama of this classic film. One night only, just before Halloween, on Saturday, October 29, 2011 at 8 pm.

Voices of Light: an Advent festival of music and poetry follows on Saturday, November 26, 2011 at 8 pm.  Enjoy the sound of voices, organ and brass heralding the time of Christmas along with seasonal readings that will bring smiles and evoke fond memories.  Joining the Guelph Chamber Choir will be organist Christopher Dawes and Musica Viva Brass.

Handel’s Messiah is presented just before Christmas on Saturday, December 17, 2011 at 8 pm at the River Run Centre.   Soloists are soprano Jennie Such, mezzo-soprano Carolynne Davy Godin, tenor Chris Fischer and bass Jason Nedecky.   Musica Viva Orchestra will provide sparkling accompaniment on period instruments.
Nearing the end of winter, come prepared to fondly recall memories of places, people, and love in a choral evening entitled, Remember.  A special feature of this concert will be music chosen by the singers themselves, with personal memories for them as well.  This concert will be presented at Harcourt Memorial United Church on Saturday, March 3, 2012 at 8 pm.

The final performance of the year is Bach’s monumental Mass in B minor.  At the very peak of his creative powers, Bach created a work of true genius unsurpassed in sheer power and brilliance. Whether one is encountering it for the first or fiftieth time, it remains a sublime experience evoking awe and wonder. The GCC will be joined by soprano Virginia Hatfield, mezzo-soprano Jennifer Enns Modolo, tenor Willis Bote and baritone Michael Adair. Bach’s Mass in B minor will be presented on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at the River Run Centre at 8 pm.

PodiumTalks!, from 7:00 to 7:30 pm, precede both The Hunchback of Notre Dame and the Mass in B minor providing insight into each evening’s performance.

Series tickets are now available for only $100 for all five concerts! Purchasing the full series reserves five wonderful evenings in the coming year, gives first choice of seats for Handel’s Messiah and Bach’s Mass in B minor while providing vital sustaining support to one of Guelph’s premiere performing arts organizations.
